Voter Registration

Deputy Registrars
The election authority for each jurisdiction administers voter registration. Illinois residents may register at the office of the election authority, at driver's license facilities, by mail and with deputy registrars who are appointed in each jurisdiction by the election authority. Deputy registrars include municipal, township, and road district clerks and precinct committeemen. Some libraries, labor groups and corporations also have deputy registrars on-site.

Learn more about the deputy registrar program and the guidelines registrars must follow.

A civic organization that wants to participate in voter registration must apply for certification from the State Board of Elections as a bonafide State civic organization. The organization must then apply to individual election authorities to have registrars appointed.

Computerized Voter Registration Files
Registered political committees may obtain computerized registration data from the State Board of Elections. The data may be used only for bonafide political purposes.
